3 Sessions @ 9 AM EST

Session A

Don't Let Your Pear Deck Account Expire - Six Ways to Use Technology When We are Back in the Classroom with Eric Siegel

Technology has an important role to play when we are back in the "real" classroom with our students. This session explores ways we can use technology like Pear Deck or Nearpod to attend to learning loss, differentiate instruction, and support students to take more control of their own learning.

Session B

Learning to Multiply & Divide with Stick & Split with David Tymm

Stick and Split is a highly innovative new game for learning multiplication and division facts. Its unique approach means students can carry out the large amounts of practice needed to build automatic recall, within a fun and engaging game, while also helping to build the understanding they’ll need. We’ll look at how, and more importantly why, the game works and we’ll look at some of the detailed thinking that underpins a surprisingly simple new teaching strategy. We’ll also be discussing whether learning multiplication and division facts in groups with a common factor (the times tables) might actually be counterproductive.

Session C

From Gaps to Gains: Using Games as a Lever for Differentiation in Math with Dr. Alison J. Mello

'Learning Loss', 'COVID Slide", "Inconsistent Learning Patterns"...however you frame it, teaching and learning looked different this year, and the impact will live on even after this year comes to an end. What does this mean for you next year? How can you possibly backfill key proficiencies from previous grades while forging ahead with the expectations within your grade level? This session will focus on using games as a lever to fortify lagging skills while infusing math with joy. Through play, students can build not only math skills, but rebuild social competencies and confidence that may have been degraded during the pandemic. Join me to discover how games can help you better meet the needs of all students while also making your math classroom more fun! Free resources for games will be shared.
